Being myself

So what does Madame Pathetique get up to in enigmatic Stone Town? Does she celebrate las frutas (frescas) del mar or go tripping the kingfish fantastic? Nope. Or perhaps lounge indulgently on the beach, in the glowing rays of the setting sun? Nein. Not even an indoor cerebral soak in the onetime-House of Wonders-now-Museum tickles her fitful fancy. And she is too broke for therapeutic retail recourse.

Get this - our self-declared tragic heroine fritters away her after-archive hours in the third floor flat on Hurumzi Street. Above the duka khanga on the ground floor and the family with friendly children ("Karibu! Karibu!"). She plays Snake II on the Nokia 8210. And Solitaire on the zonked-out Toshiba laptop. Overandoveragain. Pining rather pitiably for her partner.

My God, how time changes a person. The Me of Twenty would've scoffed and scorned at this staid and unadventurous person. I miss Routine.

Aw. its sweet to pine for one's partner. Absence makes the heart grow fonder is not just a pithy saying. It is true.

Why not make a new routine? Like work from 8-12...wander and adventure from 12-2 then work again from 2-5? That way you get the best of all worlds. Snake II and solitaire can be from 5-7.

xx

oh, alicia....
kind of understand how you're feeling now, because my partner's away for a month in France on business.

And me, I'm tied up with loads of tedious work which lasts until the end of the year. argh :-(

Thanks for all the kind thoughts, wishes and sympathies! I'm just being a wuss, tsk tsk.

Tania, would love to implement that plan, but the archives are on the outskirts of town so I'm there from 8.30am-3pm (with a cookie-cum-lunch break in between). Now that it's Day 3, it looks like blogging has become a healthy stalwart in my Zanzibar routine! :)

Charm, I'll be back in Zurich on 16th Dec ... not too long now, thankfully!

Erina, unfortunately it sounds like this is Taka's work trip in the south of France ... pretty place, sure, but I'm sure it really isn't all that people say it is! :) We can commiserate!
